Defaults Car Finance

Defaults on file?
Lenders still lend.

Defaults are among the most common marks on a UK credit file. What matters to a lender is how old they are, what caused them, and what your finances look like now.

Why choose us

Judged on today, not just on then

🔍

A broad panel

We work with a broad panel of lenders rather than a single provider, so your details reach the ones most likely to consider you.

📋

Recent history counts most

Six clean months of payments after a rough patch carries real weight. We put that in front of lenders rather than letting a score speak for you.

Fast decisions

Most enquiries get a response within 2 hours. No waiting days to find out if you qualify.

🛡️

No hard credit check

Your initial enquiry uses a soft search only. Your credit score won't be affected until you say yes.

Common Questions

Defaults and car finance, answered

Six years from the date of default, not from the date you clear it. That is worth knowing, because a default from five years ago is close to dropping off entirely and its effect on a decision by then is small.
It helps. A satisfied default shows a lender you resolved it, and some will treat that quite differently to one left outstanding. It does not remove the entry or reset the six years, but it does change how it reads.
Defaults on credit agreements — loans, cards, previous car finance — weigh more heavily than a defaulted phone or utility account. A previous vehicle finance default is the one lenders scrutinise most, for obvious reasons.
Often yes, particularly if they cluster around one period and there is nothing recent. Lenders are looking for evidence the problem has passed. A steady income, stable address history and a deposit all count in your favour.
Not at enquiry stage. We run a soft search, which only you can see, and nothing affects your file until you have seen your options and asked us to proceed with a specific lender.
